the history of VIKING Nadiro
How it all began
In 2007, Maersk initiated an analysis of life-saving applications for a new series of container vessels and started looking into the general lifeboat safety after the commencement of MSC.1/Circ.1206.
In 2008, Senior General Manager at Maersk Drilling, Mr. Bent Nielsen, presented the idea of a new and safer way to launch lifeboats to the Maersk Innovation Board. While inspiration from well-known hook manufacturers did not solve the problem, the board decided to back the innovative solution presented by Mr. Bent. He was unaware of the fact, that his idea would revolutionise global maritime safety legislations for seafarers around the world.
In 2009, findings from the Maersk analysis were presented to the IMO who were impressed with the concept of Nadiro Drop-In-Ball™ and based on the potential envisioned at the IMO meeting, Maersk decided to commercialize the product and later that year, Nadiro A/S was founded in the Svendborg, Denmark.
In 2015, Nadiro was acquired by global leader in maritime and offshore safety solutions, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment and the company name was changed to VIKING Nadiro A/S.
